Karen M. Krause, MBA, Managing Director, Government Funding Specialist

Karen M. Krause, MBA, is a management consultant with 14 years of experience conducting funding development and program management in the homeland security, defense, transportation, environmental, energy, and chemical industries.

Since 2002, Ms. Krause directly secured more than $1.2 billion in federal funding for technologies and programs from DHS, DOJ, DOT, EPA and DOE. PSSG teams with defense funding specialists who have secured more than $10B in defense funds.

For public sector clients, Ms. Krause works with end users to navigate, plan and manage government funding.  Ms. Krause brings extensive experience with the entire lifecycle of grant/contract funding - from securing the money to grant closeout - and has successfully assisted clients with completing audits from U.S. Congressional Investigation Committees, federal agencies, state agencies, state auditing agencies and financial auditors.  

For the private sector, Ms. Krause support strategic business planning activities, such as market assessments, regulatory and policy analysis, and business and marketing plan development. In addition, Ms. Krause supports government business development activities by designing proposal strategies, supports proposal capture teams and participates in red team reviews. Ms. Krause also works with the investment community supporting due diligence activities on firms with U.S. federal, state and local government contracts.

Ms. Krause has served both federal and government clients, such as the Department of Homeland Security, Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Massachusetts State Police, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.  Ms. Krause works with Fortune 1000 firms, such as Battelle, Raytheon, and EADS, as well as advises small companies with emerging technologies and services.

For the past six years, Ms. Krause has held a leadership position on the IEEE Homeland Security Technology Steering Committee for the annual IEEE Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security. During her tenure, this conference series has grown from a local workshop in the Boston area to an international conference recognized by the U.S. White House National Science and Technology Council as "the leading conference in 2008 to share the U.S. Nuclear Defense Research and Roadmap with the global technology innovation community.”

Previous to PSSG, Ms. Krause served as a Research Associate in the Technology and Operations Management Faculty Department of Harvard Business School. As a Research Associate, Ms. Krause specialized in strategic business analysis in the areas of technology management, manufacturing, and supply chain management.  She also served as an environmental scientist with Camp Dresser & McKee, an international environmental engineering firm, where she specialized in facility planning, geographical information systems, regulatory analysis, and permitting for public and private clients managing critical infrastructure facilities.

Ms. Krause holds a B.S. in Environmental Systems Technology from Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department of Cornell University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College.
